FAQ

Q: Within what time period should a sample that has been collected using the Glodrop collection kit be tested?

A: Once a sample has been correctly taken using the special paper provided, it is stable for an extended period of time (at least a couple of months for DNA assays). However for food intolerance testing, being antibody-based, we should receive the sample within 3 days of blood collection. Unused Glodrop collection kits are stable for at least a year.

Q: For multiple testing of avian samples (e.g. PBFDV, Chlamydophila psittaci and sexing), should a sample be submitted for each test?

A: No. In most cases it is only necessary to submit a single sample from which all the testing can be performed.

Q: How do I know what type of sample to submit?

A: For molecular testing it is important to submit a sample taken from the area of concern. For example, if Chlamydia trachomatis is suspected, a vaginal swab or urine sample would be required instead of a whole blood sample. For molecular testing it is vital to get out of the “serology-based” or antibody mindset, and into the “area specific” mindset.
